A partridge/ruffed grouse had a dirt bath on the edge of a dirt road.

How about a spruce grouse? I saw two in that area yesterday.

Feather looks too dark for a grouse; of course, it might be a shadow

Any ideas what it might be? The “bowl” in the dirt is the right size for a grouse but it could be something of similar size. I was back there last night and the feathers are gone with the wind.
