This week's reports

Report format = Day, date, [time]. Location (Maine Atlas Map number) Report text. Initials of correspondent.

Wednesday, December 20.  Stockton Springs (Map 14) We had perfect ice storm conditions most of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. (12/19-12/20).  In the last 24 hours in Stockton Springs we got about 3/8 inch of ice, which is covered by about 1/8 inch of snow.  Our street was without power for several hours twice today.
The rain/sleet changed to snow flurries about 11:00 am Wednesday.  R.G.

Monday, December 25.  Orono (Map 23)  We observed all of the solar eclipse.  Despite the clouds, the overcast was thin enough to see a perfect image of the eclipsed sun.  Besides viewing through a solar filter, we projected the image onto the side wall of a garage, using a small flat mirror.  There were no "pinhole effect" images under heavily branched deciduous trees, nor under needleleaf trees.  I think that due to the large amount of scattered background light from the clouds, there was no crisp image projected.
By the way, the picture of the eclipsed sun on the front page of the Bangor Daily News is upside down, as viewed when one faces the southern horizon.  F.W.
