Free Event – Tracking the Stonewalls of the Forest

Photo by Mr. DuckeSnowy stonewalls provide shelter for many animals. Here’s a chance to get outside and learn more about late winter activity in the woods, using snowshoes.

Date:  Sunday, March 6
Time: 1:30 – 3:30 PM
Place:  Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary, Montello St., Lewiston
Event:  Tracking the Stonewalls of the Forest

Join naturalist Susan Hayward for an unusual opportunity to both snowshoe through the sanctuary along the stonewalls, and find and identify the tracks left in the late winter snow by animals that use the stonewalls for shelter.  Members of the weasel family, some rodents, and maybe even a reptile will reveal their winter story as we look for signs of activity.  Bring your own snowshoes.  Some snowshoes will be available for use during the trip.

This event hosted by the Stanton Bird Club. It is free and open to the public. Meet at the Thorncrag Parking lot on Montello Street in Lewiston. For directions and a map of Thorncrag, visit the website: www.stantonbirdclub.org. For more information, call 784-8307.
